Speak Kinder to Yourself

How are you doing? Really, ask yourself - how am I?

There is so much going on in the world. Are you checking in with yourself?

I typically view myself as a healthy, confident person, able to handle most anything. From time to time, I do battle a little depression and anxiety. With the current state of the world, my anxiety and fear became almost debilitating in a quick hurry. If it were not for my closest friends and my father, I would have continued spiraling into a feeling of loneliness.

Part of what started helping was starting to change how I speak to myself internally. I caught myself saying things like, "something's wrong with me," "you suck," "I can't get motivated,"...

I read an article that reminded me why I love and have been guided to yoga that touched on our communication. In Buddhism, and I’d say in many other forms of religion; nonviolence and truthfulness are teachings that help us guide our daily lives and can directly relate to our speech.

We speak to ourselves more throughout the day than anyone else. If we can start speaking truthfully and more kind to ourselves, the less anxiety and stress we will feel.

For example I say, "I should've done..."  Replace with: "This isn't my strongest area."

Don't' make assumptions. Focus on what you know to be true.

Listen to yourself throughout the day. Note where you can improve. Don't be hard on yourself and keep practicing.
